Secondly, how important is getting a MoCA-rated splitter? It's weird to see most MoCA splitters rated in the 5-2300/2400/2500MHz range claiming "high isolation", while a small minority claim to be "low isolation" in the 1125(?)-1675MHz MoCA spectrums and rated for 5-1675MHz. 5V (USB or otherwise), in making a buying decision for MoCA? I've used 5A PS to power routers that originally came with 12V PS, and maybe in the other direction too, with no noticeable ill effects, so they seem rather interchangeable to me, with the undertstanding that dual-radio wifi AP might become underpowered under load with only 5V PS (have never experienced it myself). So, is there reason to prefer 12V power v. I've seen POE splitters with a switch for changing voltage, though they're much more expensive than fixed voltage ones. However, I'd also like to eventually power the MoCA adapters via POE (power other ethernet) splitter. I'm quite fond of the idea of the USB power option. How have been the experiences of the Ars crowd?Īs an aside on the adapters: One particular brand's design powers the adapter via a 5V 1A micro-USB, while all the others use a conventional 12V ~1A power brick. Yet, I've seen only one or maybe two Amazon reviews claiming the different brands based on Maxlinear work with each other in practice, while there are a lot of (seemingly rather semi-informed or uninformed) reviewers claiming they can't get them to work together. So, first of all, how interoperable are the current MoCA 2.5 adapters? Supposedly they're all based on the same Maxlinear3171(?) reference design, with some have coax and RJ-45 on opposite ends of the box, while others have them concentrated on the side. I got time to rethink my MoCA-enabled topology, in particular what other hardware may be needed to complete a successful MoCA setup. The AMZN screw-up may be a blessing in disguise though. Just heard of MoCA a couple of weeks ago, I'm already a huge fan, on paper, since Amazon messed up my order, so I only got a single unit which is of course useless by its lonesome.
